Deuteronomy 29 & 30:

When we fail to seek understanding

In chapter 29.2-9 Moses was recounting what God did for them those 40 years in the desert. He says, “You have seen all that the LORD did before your eyes in the land of Egypt, to Pharaoh and to all his servants and to all his land—the great trials which your eyes have seen, the signs, and those great wonders. Yet the LORD has not given you a heart to perceive and eyes to see and ears to hear, to this very day.”

In his Daily Bible, John MacArthur says, “The Lord had not given them an understanding heart, simply because the people had not penitently sought it.”

What have you not “seen” because you have not sought understanding? God desires to show us more and more, to take us deeper and deeper into His truth, for us to know Him better and better, but we must want it and we must seek it and we must ask Him for it.

In Matthew 7.7-8 Jesus says, “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened.” Continue reading
