COVID-19: Pray, Share & Encourage
The COVID-19 virus continues to spread and its effects are being felt by many … probably all of us in various degrees.
While the hardships many are encountering are challenging and we’re dealing with our concerns for family and loved ones, let’s not forget this is an opportunity to share our faith and point others to the only real source of peace in a broken world.
Let’s all encourage one another to trust in the Lord and let’s pray … for others, for our leaders, for our country and that the gospel would have free reign and we would have the boldness to share it.
Two of my posts this week touch on the subject of COVID-19 or the coronavirus as it’s also known. I hope you’ll read them if you haven’t already. In “Trusting God with an Enemy We Can’t See” I offer some suggestions for growing our faith during this time and in “Trusting God amid the Coronavirus” I talk about staying faithful when our security is challenged.
Now here’s what’s been happening on the blog. If you are encouraged by what you see and you’re not signed up to receive the daily posts in your inbox, you can sign up here. I’ll be writing more about the emotions (like anxiety, depression, anger) with which many people struggle during difficult times like this COVID-19 pandemic.
Last Week’s Most Read Post:
“Trusting God amid the Coronavirus”
Trusting God in an uncertain world … Is it even possible? Jesus warned there would be a time when wars, earthquakes, famines, and other disasters would be more and more common. We can add to that list of uncertainties concerns over the coronavirus or COVID-19, now termed a pandemic, and the financial and social upheavals accompanying it. So, how can we stay faithful and continue trusting God in a changing, uncertain world?
This Past Week’s Other Posts:
“Trusting God with an Enemy We Can’t See”
David and others in the Bible understood their need to trust in God and not their own abilities or anything else. What about you? Are you trusting God with the things going on in your life? What about with the COVID-19 crisis, where is your trust? Is it in the government, in medical intervention, or in your own efforts to keep yourself safe? Or are you ultimately trusting in God and God alone?
“God’s Criticism at the Cross & Our Stupidity”
When our kids were growing up, we would correct them when they called one another stupid. You probably do the same thing. So, I was surprised to find out that God calls us stupid when we act a certain way. That’s a pretty harsh criticism when you realize the word translated stupid comes from a word meaning “to graze.” One who acts this way is like an ignorant animal, like the old saying goes, “dumb as an ox.” So, what is it we do that would cause God to call us “stupid”?
“Redemption, the Cross & Sarcastic Teenagers”
A few years ago as I was reading about the Day of Atonement, the Feast of Booths, and all the animal sacrifices required, I thought about a funny thing that happened years before and how a sarcastic teenager reminded me about the cost of our redemption.
“God’s Will for Your Life”
What is God’s will for your life? For mine? I wonder how many times we have asked or, at least, thought about that question? Are there some things we can be sure are God’s will for us? Check out today’s post to find out.
“The Blinding Effect of Idolatry”
Though God is patient and merciful with us, it doesn’t mean He’s changed His mind about sin. Sin and idolatry still have painful consequences. But the problem is that idolatry has a blinding effect. We can be blinded about the extent of our sin and how it hurts others. And we can be blinded to the source of our sinful choices. Finally, we can be blinded to how easy it is to justify our sin.
“How’s Your Giving Attitude?”
Giving … it can be a hot button issue in churches. What is your attitude about giving? Do you dread that part of the service? Do you give it little thought because you have so little to give? What about the prosperity gospel? Is it biblical or not? What is God looking for when it comes to our giving?
“Modesty, Discretion, Fraud & Pig’s Noses”
What do our clothing and behavior say about us? Does our freedom in Christ mean we have a right to dress any way we choose? If men have a problem with it, is that their problem? What about off-color language? Is it simply part of life in today’s world? And what, if anything, do modesty and discretion have to do with pig’s noses?
“How Does God Guide His People?”
Psalm 32 tells us God guides us with His eye. What does that mean? It involves His Word, His Holy Spirit and the circumstances of our lives. But there is something we cannot do without if we want God’s leading. Also, is it possible that God not only wants to guide and direct your life and mine, but to do great things in and through you and me? What assurances do we have of that fact?
And Our Last Newsletter in Case You Missed It:
In Like a Lion & Out Like a Lamb | Soul Survival Newsletter
An old folk proverb says that March comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb. As Christians with Easter just around the corner, we have reason to think about another Lion and Lamb. Jesus, our Savior and Lord, came as the Lamb of God in His first advent but will soon return as the Lion of Judah. Are you ready?
If you missed any, I hope you’ll check out a couple.
Blessings,
Donna
