An old folk proverb says that March comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb. Probably a reference to the fact that in many climates it’s still pretty cold at the beginning of the month and whether or not it’s wishful thinking in some parts of the country, by the end of the month spring is often making itself evident.
As Christians with Easter just around the corner, we have reason to think about another Lion and Lamb. Jesus, our Savior and Lord, came as the Lamb of God in His first advent but will soon return as the Lion of Judah.
He was born as a babe, lived a sinless life, and finally, suffered and died the death each of us deserves (Rom. 3.23, 6.23). But what looked like defeat was turned to victory three days later when He rose from the dead.
He now sits at the right hand of God the Father. But one day, probably sooner than many think, He will return as the Lion of Judah and Conquering King.

Reflecting on February
February was a busy month. Even though we had an extra day, it flew by. You can read about “The God of Time & Leap Year“, if you missed it.
The day before Valentine’s Day was our 37th Anniversary. God has been so faithful in our lives. He took two broken, sinful people, set our feet on the Rock and has been faithfully working in our lives ever since. Some days we just look at each other in awe and one of us will ask, “Can you believe how much He has blessed us?” We’re not talking about wealth or other things the world might want but about His mercy and grace and the love He has put in our hearts for Him and for each other. You can read more of our testimony here, if you’re so inclined.
We also celebrated several family birthdays, attended a wonderful couples banquet with our church family, and spent a relaxing weekend with our oldest son and his wife at their cabin in New Mexico. A good month.
Upcoming in March
This month Mike and I will be leading a counseling and discipleship training class at our church. We’ll meet on Thursday evenings. There will be an informational meeting on March 26th and it’s open to anyone in the El Paso, Texas area who is interested in knowing more about biblical counseling and one-anothering those God has placed in our ministries and lives. It’s definitely for those who might like to do more formal biblical counseling but also those who want to be better equipped to disciple others.
If you would like more information, you can email me.
Mike will be giving his testimony at our men’s breakfast this Saturday and I’ll be teaching our ladies study on March 28th. The title will be “One-Anothering … Bearing the Image of Christ.”
Our oldest great-grandson will turn six this month and we’ll be leaving at the end of the month for California where Mike will perform the wedding of our oldest grandson and his fiancee. Lots of blessings!
How was your February? And to what are you looking forward this month?
I’m praying that we all come to know God better, become more like His Son and bring Him glory in all that we do.

“To the Victim of Adultery & the Would-Be Adulterer”
Most of us know someone whose life has been turned upside down by the sin of adultery. Perhaps that is you. While it is not the unforgivable sin, the effects of adultery are often devastating. It affects our relationships with others, especially our children, as well as, our finances and our testimonies. But none of those things is the worst consequence.

“Could You Be a Religious Pretender?”
It’s so easy to let hypocritical attitudes creep into our hearts and allow ourselves to become religious pretenders. We may look good on the outside, but have hearts full of envy, greed, anger, worry, and self-righteousness. In the process, we lose the joy of our salvation and find ourselves just going through the motions of the Christian life. Could that be you … a religious pretender?
“4 Keys to Waiting on the Lord”
How well do you handle “waiting on the Lord”? Do you have an “I’m waiting … I’m waiting …” while you drum your fingers on the table attitude? Or do you ever find yourself thinking, “I’ve prayed, but nothing seems to be happening!” Why does God allow us to wait, anyway? Can “waiting on the Lord” be a good thing? Can we learn to trust Him … really trust Him as a result? And if so, how?
“Curanderas, Horoscopes & Secret Things”
Is the desire to know the secret things about the future, our lives or those close to us wrong? Is it permissible for Christians to visit curanderas, palm readers, and fortune-tellers? Are there secret things which God has not revealed and which we are forbidden to seek apart from Him and His Word? And is it possible that Satan and his demons use people who claim to know those secret things to deceive us by sounding religious or harmless?
“Where Will You Spend Eternity?” February 10
We will all spend eternity somewhere. Some will spend eternity suffering in the lake of fire and others will spend eternity with God. Jesus compared that judgment to a shepherd separating sheep and goats. Yet, both sheep and goats sit in our churches every Sunday. On the outside, we look much the same, but one day, the “Great Shepherd” will separate the two. The sheep to everlasting glory. The goats to everlasting punishment. Do you know for certain where you will spend eternity?
“Trusting God as Father”
What does the Bible say about personal accountability and the influence or responsibility of parents? Certainly, parents are called to faithfully teach their children gospel truths and to live them out before them. But is there anything parents can do to guarantee their children will be followers of Christ? And conversely, if parents are not faithful followers of Christ, are children doomed to follow in their parents’ footsteps?
“Are You Being Exposed to Contagious Sins?”
Plagues and epidemics have been part of human history since the fall. Of course, the latest one is the Coronavirus. But there is a plague that is even more contagious and disfiguring, the plague of sin. Paul warned us about contagious sins. We can pick them up from others and, worse yet, we can be carriers spreading them to those around us.
Have you allowed yourself to be exposed to some contagious sin? Are you protecting your family from over-exposure to them? Or worse, could you be guilty of spreading contagious sins to others?
“Ignoring God’s Wisdom”
Many people have attended church for years. They’ve gone to Bible studies and heard the Bible preached, but they reject the wisdom of God and live in foolish ways. Others reject God altogether claiming they can decide what is right and wise for them.
Does God save His wisdom for a select few who achieve some deeper knowledge or is it there for everyone to hear and apply? And is there a way for those who know God to grow in wisdom?
And Our Leap Day Post:
“The God of Time & Leap Year”
A few thoughts about the God of time, politics, seasons and leap year.
If you missed them, I hope you’ll check out a couple.
Blessings,
