“What to Do When Life Feels Overwhelming” May 14
Have you ever reached the point where you simply didn’t know what to do next?
Maybe the pressure kept building until you felt emotionally exhausted, spiritually drained, and completely overwhelmed. Perhaps the very people you expected to support you became part of the problem. And instead of answers, all you could see were loss, disappointment, uncertainty, and fear.
David knew what that felt like.
In today’s reading, David returned home to find his city burned, his families taken captive, and his own men so bitter and angry that they talked of stoning him. Humanly speaking, David was at his wits’ end.
But Scripture gives us one of the most powerful statements in David’s entire life:
“But David strengthened himself in the LORD his God.”
David did not deny the pain, pretend the situation wasn’t serious, or place his hope in positive thinking. Instead, he turned his attention back to God—His sovereignty, His faithfulness, His justice, His mercy, and His promises.
And perhaps that is exactly what we need to remember when life leaves us overwhelmed and discouraged.
When we are at our wits’ end, we do not have to be at our faith’s end.
God often uses seasons of difficulty, disappointment, and unmet desires to draw our eyes away from ourselves and back onto Him. Even painful circumstances can become tools in His hands to shape our character, deepen our dependence on Him, and conform us more into the image of Christ.
The question is not whether we will face overwhelming moments. The question is where we will turn when we do.
