“Are You Trusting Christ—or Your Religious Life?” November 10
Can a person do all the right Christian things—and still be missing something vitally important?
Go to church.
Know the language.
Attend Bible studies.
Serve.
Have Christian friends.
Talk about God.
And yet use all of that to avoid facing what is really going on in the heart?
It is an uncomfortable possibility.
But Scripture repeatedly warns about outward religion that is not accompanied by genuine repentance and heart change.
And sometimes religious activity can even give us a sense of security while certain areas of life remain carefully protected from God’s authority.
So how does that happen?
What might it look like?
And how can we know whether our spiritual habits are drawing us closer to Christ—or helping us avoid dealing with something He wants to change?
Today’s readings also take us back to Ezekiel, where God’s people had become remarkably good at explaining away their disobedience.
They wanted to live life on their own terms—and somehow avoid the consequences.
Could we be more like them than we realize?
