What do you do when evil seems to be winning?

When people who reject God appear to prosper?

When truth is mocked, sin is celebrated, and those who stand for what is right seem increasingly outnumbered?

The prophet Habakkuk wrestled with questions like those.

He looked around at the wickedness of his day and struggled to understand why God allowed it to continue.

And Revelation 13 takes that question into the future.

A ruler will arise with extraordinary power.

The world will marvel after him.

People will worship him.

Those who refuse will face persecution and even death.

And eventually no one will be able to buy or sell without his mark, his name, or the number associated with him:

666.

For a time, it will look as though evil has been given free rein.

But there’s something easy to miss in Revelation 13.

The Antichrist’s authority is not unlimited.

His time is not unlimited.

And his apparent success does not mean God has lost control.

So what are God’s people supposed to do when evil looks unstoppable?

Habakkuk gives us an answer that echoes throughout Scripture:

“The just shall live by faith.”
