“Laziness, Self-Esteem & New Habits” June 8
Why do we procrastinate?
Why do we put off things we know we should do?
Why is it so easy to scroll, binge-watch, daydream, or distract ourselves, yet so difficult to tackle important responsibilities?
Many modern explanations point to low self-esteem, lack of motivation, burnout, childhood experiences, personality types, or mental health struggles.
Some even argue that laziness doesn’t exist at all.
But what does God say?
The Bible talks about laziness often—especially in Proverbs. And Scripture’s diagnosis may be very different from what we’re hearing today.
Could laziness be more than a productivity problem? Could it be a habit problem? A worship problem? Or even a gospel problem?
And if we recognize laziness in our own lives, how do we change without falling into legalism, self-condemnation, or trying to earn God’s approval?
Today’s reading offers both a challenge and a tremendous source of hope.
