“Looking for Answers to Life’s Toughest Questions?” May 18
Why am I here?
What is my purpose?
Is this all there is?
What happens after I die?
At some point, nearly everyone wrestles with questions like these. We want meaning. We long for peace. We search for purpose and hope and answers that can make sense of life.
The problem isn’t that people are asking the wrong questions.
The problem is often where we look for the answers.
Many search through self-help books, psychology, success, social causes, spirituality, relationships, health, achievement, or endless distractions hoping something will finally satisfy the restlessness inside. Others spend years exploring philosophies and religions trying to make sense of life and death.
The religious leaders in Jesus’ day had a different problem—but one just as tragic.
In today’s reading from John 5, they studied the Scriptures, memorized them, debated them, and devoted their lives to religion. Yet they completely missed the One to whom all Scripture pointed. Jesus stood right in front of them, and they did not recognize Him.
How close can someone be to truth and still miss it?
Today’s readings remind us that ultimate answers are not found merely in information, religion, or human wisdom. They are found in a Person.
Jesus is not only the One who gives answers.
He is the Answer.
